Plumas Community Protection

Additionally, the Feather River Watershed is a critically important source of water to communities throughout California, as the primary watershed contributing to the California State Water Project. Blue Forest recognizes that the project area makes up the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary homelands of the Mountain Maidu and Konkow Maidu Peoples, who have stewarded these lands since time immemorial. The Plumas National Forest holds relationships with Tribal governments and communities to fulfill trust responsibilities and enhance co-stewardship.

Blue Forest is exploring the feasibility of a Forest Resilience Bond (FRB) supporting projects within the Plumas National Forest’s community protection efforts around the Feather River Watershed. These projects would include forest health treatments such as thinning, prescribed fire, and meadow and aspen restoration. These treatments are expected to provide numerous benefits, including decreased fire risk through increased forest resilience, enhanced community safety, and protected water supply to communities throughout California.
